Folk choir "Oberigh". Grechkyne village

Recording of authentic Ukrainian folk songs was done on the 22d December 2007 in Grechkyne village, Krolevets region, Ukraine.

Age of participants: from 65 till and after 85.

Performance of Ukrainian songs by this choir is different from traditions of singing in other villages of Krolevets region. This is due to the fact, that historically Grechkyne village was settled down by people from various corners of the region and even from other places then Krolevets region. Hence, everyone had brought in something of his own into the way of singing the traditional folk songs.

Sad news: the main singer, the soul of the choir - Deyneko Illya - passed away recently...

If there will be another CD with recording of this choir, is not clear...

Why do I have to hurry recording?

1. age of participants
2. no follow up as
3. less people stay in the villages; the young ones
4. flee to the places to earn money and those are urban territories, so
5. less time for pure life; hurrying and loosing identity
6. westernizing in the wrong way
7. more money - less culture
8. isn't it a pity?..
